Nora is a one-act ballet inspired by the lead character in Henrik Ibsen’s play A Doll’s House, a woman on the path to independence. When past choices catch up with her and reveal a new side to her husband, Nora sees their relationship crumble and her illusions shatter – leading to a life-changing decision.
The online release of Nora showcases our Associate Choreographer and First Artist of the Company Stina Quagebeur. Nora was her first work for the main stage. Since then, Quagebeur has received the Emerging Artist prize at the National Dance Awards 2019.
The cast includes Crystal Costa in the title role, Jeffrey Cirio as Nora’s husband Torvald and Junor Souza as Krogstad, a man who attempts to blackmail Nora.
The music is by Oscar-nominated composer Philip Glass, and is performed by English National Ballet Philharmonic.
Synopsis
Nora is married to Torvald. On the surface, they are a happy couple.
Without telling him, a few years ago she took out a loan with Krogstad. Torvald had fallen ill, and their family needed the money so he could travel and recuperate in a better climate. Nora has been hiding this secret ever since.
When this decision catches up with her (through blackmail from Krogstad), it reveals a new side to her husband. Nora sees their relationship crumble and her illusions shatter – leading to a life-changing decision.
