presents “Impressions”, an evening of creations by contemporary choreographers Jessica Wright, and , danced by the Paris Opera Ballet. “Arena”, the first Paris Opéra creation by Jessica Wright and , with music by Mikael Karlsson, explores the links between dance and video. The second show, “Étude” by , explores the relationship between image and movement, darkness and light.

What can video contribute to choreography? Can the camera itself become choreographic, making dance more visceral? These are some of the questions underlying Jessica Wright and Morgann Runacre-Temple’s artistic research. In Empreintes, the two British choreographers make their Paris Opera debut with a creation exploring the links between video and dance, set to an original score by Mikael Karlsson, composer of Play.

Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau is also sensitive to the arts’ interdisciplinary dimension, often using a language that combines movement and image. His new work, Étude, explores the relationship between darkness and light, the light that allows us to imagine and create, despite doubts and shadows.

The first piece, created by the British duo Morgan Runacre-Temple and Jessica Wright, innovatively explores the use of video in dance. In this creation, the two choreographers push the boundaries of performance by integrating filmed elements projected in real-time on stage. They offer a reflection on how technology can interact with movement. Far from being a mere visual accompaniment, the video becomes a dynamic partner, capable of altering the audience’s perception and enriching the choreographic experience.

In contrast, the second creation, Étude, by Spanish choreographer Marcos Morau, focuses on the duality between darkness and light. Morau explores how these elements can be used to manipulate space, emotion, and perception, while questioning the shadow as a reflection of light. This piece immerses the dancers in an environment of striking contrasts, where shadows and light confront and blend, continuously altering the atmosphere and dynamics of the performance.
