A great evening of ballet and a celebration of dance!
Nureyev was a visionary: As a dancer charismatic, emotional and intelligent, athletic and attractive like no other in the second half of the 20th century and not only a great performer of his roles, but also a breaker of the boundaries between classical ballet and contemporary dance; as a choreographer an artist who condensed the classics through virtuosity; as a ballet director a facilitator of new works that have continued to write dance history.
The program of the Nureyev Gala 2024 follows in these footsteps and presents the dancers of the Vienna State Ballet in a stylistic spectrum from the 19th century to the present. Top-class guests from the Ballet de l’Opéra de Paris, Étoiles Valentine Colasante and Marc Moreau, will present the Grand Pas Classique by Victor Gsovsky and the Pas de deux from the second act of Rudolf Nureyev‘s Swan Lake. Furthermore on the program with the Vienna State Ballet: the La Ventana Pas de trois by August Bournonville, Waltz and Pas de cinq from the first act of Rudolf Nureyev’s Swan Lake, Martin Schläpfer‘s solo Ramifications, his waltz Wiener Blut and the Pas de deux from the second act of Dornröschen, Hans van Manen‘s Four Schumann Pieces, the Black Pas de deux from John Neumeier‘s Lady of the Camellias, the Fandango and the Grand Pas de deux from third act of Rudolf Nureyev’s Don Quixote and, as the grand finale, an excerpt from Harald Lander‘s Etudes. Wolfgang Heinz will conduct the Vienna State Opera Orchestra.
