Four dissidents from the former Soviet Union are stranded in the interzonal area between East and West. In the far from harmonious atmosphere the essential question remains – should they continue towards the unknown or should they go back to what they know?

THERE is by far the most requested performance the company has ever made. It was also the turning point where the company started to focus more on actors than on dancers, as well as initiating the company’s nonsensical language trademark. After more than 100 shows around the world, the performance proved that the theme was relevant to all regions and cultures. The issue of existential doubt is and always will be universal.

20 years after its premiere, the company sets out on yet another quest to pinpoint human insecurity, with both the original cast and a new cast of younger actors. The relaunch also reflects the strength of the company – its performances never go out of style. Perhaps because they are never trendy in the first place.

was born in Norway, where he continues to headquarter his theater company specializing in nonsensical languages, live music, film, and puppetry. He studied classical ballet and performed as a dancer before an injury pointed him more towards a multi-disciplinary creative career. Kompani was founded in 1998 and from its base in Norway it has grown to become one of the most successful independent groups in Scandinavia.

The company has created 56 productions, and the touring list covers 66 countries. 150-200 shows are performed annually in national theatres and alternative venues around the world. JSK’s home stage in Oslo is the Norwegian Opera House, where Jo Strømgren is House Choreographer.

The JSK style is characterized by a peculiar mix of dance and theatre, with a distinct humour combined with darker, political undertones. JSK offers a standing repertoire of 10-12 different performances, covering a broad range of genres.

No matter what form or genre, all performances are designed for smooth and flexible worldwide touring and can be adapted into almost any language.
