In the early 1990s, he joined the repertoire of the Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris, showcasing his talent and creativity. As a choreographer, he received the prestigious Prix Benois de la Danse in 1995, recognizing his exceptional contributions to the field.

In December 1984, Preljocaj founded his own ballet company, which later became known as Ballet Preljocaj. The company found its permanent home at Pavillon Noir of Aix-en-Provence in 1996, where it continues to flourish.
