What happens when the language of dance transcends its barriers? This is the question answered by Dialogues, a choreographic competition that strives to redefine the terms of dance performance. Imagined by the choreographer Mourad Merzouki, this contest puts four companies in competition with a single instruction: to bring the other performing arts into the dance. Each group lends itself brilliantly to the exercise. This is how we can see–between two graceful contemporary gestures and a quick eight beats of hip-hop–the bow of a violinist as well as the words of a slammer, the scratches of a DJ, or the acrobatics of a contortionist.
This exchange between dance and its scenic counterparts gives a glimpse of what the performing arts, when combined, have to offer. More than a competition, Dialogues is a conversation; a conversation between disciplines that, it seems, have a lot to say to each other.

Imagined by Mourad Merzouki, the evening brings together 23 dancers, slammers and musicians, leaders of an innovative and daring artistic scene.
Selected from a hundred candidates, the companies brought together explore the connections between the performing arts. In each of the piece presented, dance is shaped by a dialogue with images, words, sounds and movements from other disciplines.
