Swan Lake

Devant la Nature

After Snow White and Romeo and Juliet, tackles a new dance legend, Swan Lake.

Angelin Preljocaj has set himself a major challenge with the reinterpretation of the most emblematic ballet in the history of classical dance: Swan Lake. After Gravité and Winterreise, he felt the desire to return to large narrative ballets. A domain in which he excels, as prove Snow White and Romeo and Juliet. And how could one resist Tchaikovsky's enchanting music?

Whilst keeping the energy and the structural dramaturgy of the ballet, Preljocaj looks at the motivations of each character, what moves and affects them. He seizes the swan-dancer and her evil double from the depths of a lake that hasn't yet given away all its secrets. This is also a way for the choreographer to renew this attraction for Russian culture and the memory of dance that is so dear to his heart.
