El Lago

Festival Le Temps d'aimer la danse Biarritz

By In Dance 1 hour 4 min

Spanish choreographer revisits the mega-hit of the classical repertoire, the mythical Swan Lake, which continues to inspire the creations of today. With grace and originality, he has created a clever reinterpretation of one of Tchaikovsky’s most beautiful scores.

In El Lago, Víctor Jiménez redefines this paradigm of Russian ballet with the constant research and experimentation in rhythm, movement and light architecture that characterise him, bringing ‘s transgressive language to life through his captivating sensibility.

Rather than following the classical narrative of impossible love, Jiménez transforms the lake into something far more profound—a mirror reflecting the layers we all carry within ourselves. His imaginary lake explores the eternal duality between our surface appearances and our authentic selves. In this vision, society becomes a pristine sanctuary of white swans, representing conformity and expected behavior. But within this perfect world, the black swan emerges as a rebel, courageously stripping away pretense to discover truth and freedom.

Once again, this is a show of great originality—a physical, plastic and interpretative transcendence that pushes the dancers’ bodies beyond conventional limits.

The private dance company LaMov was born in 2008 in Zaragoza under the direction of Madrid’s Víctor Jiménez.
